What better way to blog than to share me playing with my newest toy/work tool.
Nikon D300s with a 5-Year accidental coverage (necessary when you live with three kids under three).
I spent hours researching which brand to purchase. Canon or Nikon. I love Canon. I come from film school where the media arts is flooded with amazing canon cameras, with easy to navigate menu systems. My first DSLR was a Rebel and it did me well. It was familiar to me. But then my friends let me use their Nikon. There were in camera features that were useful, things I manipulate easily without getting into the camera. Handy buttons on the body I didn’t have available on Canon.
I think what really sold me was learning the history of the two companies and how at some point, canon decided to switch the mount format on the camera while Nikon decided to stay with their traditional mount. The new mount may have been better. But what about the current customers at the time who had invested in good glass? I’d like to know the money I put in my lenses are good to use at any time, and as a new customer, I like knowing I can buy any lens and know it will work. I doubt anyone will change their game now, and this all happened decades ago, but I still like the fact that Nikon stayed true to their customers. Customers are number 1. Always have been and always should be the case.
Another small, but important feature is the help lines. To know that Nikon offers 24 hours phone support, even if I never use it, is important to me. I’m a night owl. Not much stays open late for us late night folk, especially in a smaller town- 7eleven, Jack in the Box, maybe Del Taco. I like having a peace of mind knowing there’s someone out there to talk with if I need it.
In the end, Nikon and Canon are both amazing companies with amazing products that do amazing things. I love technology, and the things we are capable of producing with the new advancements. I’m glad they are both constantly challenging the new “best” in the market, coming up with new and better versions of equipment while introducing things that blow us away. So there’s my thoughts. I’m done.
UPS delivered my Nikon yesterday. Here are a few pics I took on its first day with me trying to deplete the charge of the battery. They may be random, but it was fun playing around. I think I took 300 or so pictures before it finally did die. Not bad for left over charge.
My day for the most part started in the car. We left to run errands and pick up my husbands new toy, an iPhone 4, while I played with the settings on my toy.

My personal fave: the third photo, second row, where Hubster’s lips are still catching up to the rest of his face. Rapid 7 frames per second action, no blur. Love love love!

Back at home my son Dominic was curious about the newest member of our family and stood in front of me, squinting his face with his special “cheese” smile.

As much as I love his silliness… I love his sweet side, that is, when he’s not cracking up when someone get hurt on a cartoon.
Olivia can switch from devastated to cheerful pretty quickly.

I love that about her. I need to learn this skill.

Nathaniel is learning the art of charm. He does it quite well. (dominic still doing his “cheese”)

I can never tire of the affection they are capable of showing each other. Capable. Not continuous, but this is real good. Especially for the first holiday photo I plan on taking soon.

It’s really hard being her mother sometimes. I almost always want to say yes. Anything you want, yes!

Juice Please! “Jooo peese” (with his sister’s cup)

Saying goodbye with a kiss (and her brother’s cup). Sharing is caring I guess.

And a night sky. Hubster really wanted to take some photos of our night sky. Lucky for us we live in a quiet agricultural reserve where there is minimal residents and minimal light. Looking forward to more experimental night shots…
For now, that’s all. I’m sure I’ll have more to share soon.
Special thanks to my friends Aaron and Jessica for officially converting me over to world of Nikon. I’m very much in love.
